The Rhodes USSA team travelled to Vaal University of Technology to take part in its third USSA Games. 2015 was the first year that the club was able to participate in all three sections. This is an immense achievement for the club whose first USSA was only three years ago. Each time the club has participated, we have added a new section that we can compete in. Likewise, the team has grown each year, increasing from only 4 couples in 2013 to 9 couples in 2015.
USSA is one of the club’s most important competitions and as such we take it very seriously. Months of preparation and a special USSA bootcamp certainly paid off as the club performed well in all three sections. The highlight was definitely the formation section in which the Rhodes team placed third. The Rhodes formation took everyone by surprise as no one expected first time competitors to do so well and the spooky theme had everyone talking! It is with this in mind that the team received a standing ovation at the awards dinner. Rhodes University is now considered to be a serious threat by the other universities and everyone is waiting with baited breath to see what Rhodes will do for their 2016 formation.
Rhodes University DanceSport travelled to Mangosuthu University of Technology in Durban where 19 institutions took part in the University Sport South Africa (USSA) DanceSport competition.
